Uber EV Mission: The Central Government is now working rapidly to promote electric vehicles in India. In this initiative, Pralhad Joshi has now appealed to ride-hailing company Uber to help its drivers and fleet owners convert to electric vehicles. Regarding this initiative, the Minister said that this initiative is being taken under the Clean and Green Mobility Mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the objective of which is to reduce pollution in the country.
Important meeting held with Uber CEO
Prahlad Joshi also interacted with the CEO of Uber during the CII Annual Business Summit 2026 organized in New Delhi regarding the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this meeting, issues to EV adoption and consumers were discussed in detail and what work can be done on it. Regarding this conversation, the minister said that Uber is one of the largest transport networks in the world. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of the company to ask its drivers and fleet owners to use electric vehicles.
He also added, ‘I have clearly told them that Uber should support its drivers and vehicle owners to convert to EVs. This will promote clean transportation.”
Government’s focus now on Green Mobility
Considering the situation in the world and the continuously rising prices of petrol and diesel in the country and to remove the problem of pollution, the government is continuously promoting the EV sector. It is also believed that the share of electric vehicles in taxi and cab services can be increased rapidly in the coming years. Regarding this new process, experts believe that if big companies like Uber adopt the EV model rapidly, then it will also give a boost and a stronger hold to the charging infrastructure and battery technology.
Consumers’ interests were also discussed
In this meeting with the CEO, not only EV but also customer issues were discussed. On this, the Minister clearly said that the interests of consumers are most important for the government. Which should not be ignored. He said that Uber should audit its own processes following the government guidelines. The company has also agreed to this.
Regarding this new process, Prahlad Joshi said, ‘We told them that the interests of consumers are paramount. The company has assured that it will self-audit everything and then submit a report to the government.”
New momentum may increase in EV sector
Now is the time that such partnerships between the government and big tech companies are being considered as a big step for the EV sector. Due to which, in the coming time, people may get new options for more economical and environment-friendly travel.
