Sulakshana Pandit, the celebrated Bollywood actor and playback singer, died Thursday evening following a cardiac arrest. She was 71.
Her brother Lalit Pandit confirmed that she experienced breathlessness and was being taken to Nanavati Hospital when she passed away around 7 pm.
Sulakshana made her acting debut in 1975 with Uljhanopposite Sanjeev Kumar. She quickly rose to prominence, starring alongside legends like Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, and Vinod Khanna. Her filmography includes Sankoch, Hera Pheri, Khandaanand Dharam Khanta.
Beyond acting, Sulakshana Pandit carved a remarkable path as a playback singer. Her voice graced hits such as “Tu hi saagar tu hi kinara,” “Pardesiya tere desh mein,” and “Bekrar dil tut gaya.” She began singing at age nine, performing with her brother Mandheer.
Born into a musical family in Hissar, Haryana, Sulakshana was the niece of classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj. Her siblings include music composers Jatin and Lalit Pandit, and actress Vijayata Pandit.
