With the new fiscal year now fully set in, customers are now planning their banking errands and fresh investments for the year. The holiday calendar for banks is published by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) every year. This calendar covers weekends, national holidays, regional celebrations, and special occassions. Weekend holidays for banks include second, fourth Saturdays and all Sundays.
In May, banks are scheduled to remain closed on the first day in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Manipur, Kerala, Bengal, Goa, and Bihar, on account of Labour Day and Maharashtra Day.
There are also some long weekends lined up for bank employees in the month. With Rabindranath Tagore's birthday falling on May 9, followed by the second Saturday and Sunday, banks will remain closed for 3 days in West Bengal.
