WhatsApp Down: WhatsApp users across the globe faced a sudden outage that left many unable to send messages or upload status updates. The issue began around 5:30 p.m. IST, with a surge in complaints reported on the outage tracking site Downdetector.
Users in India, the US, and other countries said they were having trouble using the app normally. A majority of the complaints—nearly 88%—were to messages not being sent, while others reported problems with the app itself. A smaller number of users also said they couldn’t log into WhatsApp at all.
Users Turn to Social Media for Answers
As soon as the problem surfaced, users took to X (formerly Twitter) to see if others were facing similar issues. “Is WhatsApp down for everyone or just me?” asked one user. Another wrote, “Trying to upload a status, but it’s just stuck.”
Screenshots of undelivered messages and failed status uploads quickly started doing the rounds on social media, as people looked for confirmation that the outage was widespread and not just a glitch on their end.
So far, WhatsApp has not released an official statement explaining the cause of the disruption or when it would be resolved.
No Comment from WhatsApp Yet
Despite the scale of the issue, Meta—the parent company of WhatsApp—has not provided any details about what caused the outage. There has also been no timeline shared on when the services will be fully restored. Interestingly, some users also reported brief glitches on other Meta-owned platforms like Instagram and Facebook, though those were not as widely discussed.
More outages today!
Earlier in the day, users of India’s popular payment system UPI also faced service disruptions. Many reported failed transactions and delays while trying to transfer money. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) acknowledged the issue and said it was working on a fix.
While it’s unclear if the UPI and WhatsApp outages are , both incidents highlight how dependent we’ve become on digital tools in our daily lives.
