On the first day of the financial year, a large number of people across the country were seen struggling with the problem of not having UPI payment. State Bank of India (SBI) users also faced problems in digital banking and fund transfer. According to the Dowdatector website, the problem started at around 8:15 am and reached its peak by noon. More than 800 users lodged a complaint of obstruction in SBI services.
NPCI and SBI clarified
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) issued a statement on the social media platform X, stating that some banks are facing transactions problems at the end of the financial year. However, NPCI clarified that the UPI system is functioning correctly and they are working together with banks to solve this problem.
SBI also informed its customers about the blockage in UPI services. The bank advised that customers use UPI Light or ATM. Also, SBI released a post stating that their digital services will be closed from 1 pm to 4 pm on 1 April 2025. The bank said, “Digital services will not be available till 4 pm on April 1 due to annual closing. Please use UPI Light and ATM for without interruption service.”
What is UPI Lite?
UPI light is an easy and fast alternative to small digital transactions. Payments of up to Rs 500 can be made without adding UPI PIN. A maximum of Rs 4,000 can be paid with UPI lights in a day. For this, first one has to add money to the wallet, then transactions can be done.
UPI service was stalled earlier also
Recently, UPI services in the country had come to a standstill for some time, due to which thousands of users had to face trouble. According to the dowdatector, more than 2,750 complaints were filed in UPI by 7:50 pm at that time. 296 users of Google Pay, 119 of Paytm and 376 users of SBI also complained of outage.
