Aadhar card is an important identity of every Indian citizen. If you have recently changed your place of residence or your Aadhaar card is more than 10 years old, it is time to update your document. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has provided the facility to update Aadhaar card information online for free. The deadline for this service has been extended to 14 December 2024, so that every citizen can correct his/her details without any haste.
UIDAI has repeatedly encouraged citizens to keep their Aadhaar card information accurate and updated. This not only helps in availing the benefits of various government schemes but is also essential to keep your identity secure and valid.
How to avail the service from free online updates?
UIDAI has made the process simple and user-friendly. The free update service is available only on My Aadhaar portal or the official website of UIDAI. This facility is available from the comfort of your home, allowing Aadhaar cardholders to save both time and money.
Login to the official website of UIDAI (uidai.gov.in) and go to My Aadhaar portal.
Enter OTP using your registered mobile number and login to the portal.
Check the information present on the Aadhaar card. If there is a mistake, select the correction option.
Select the correct identity document from the drop-down menu. For example, if you need to change your address, your new address proof will need to be uploaded.
Scan your document and upload it on the portal. Make sure documents are clear and readable.
After completion of the process, you will get a 14 digit Update Request Number (URN). This number will help you track your update status.
Offline update key process
Those who find difficulty in the online process can go to their nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra and get updated. However, keep in mind that a fee is charged for updates at the Aadhaar Seva Kendra. It is mandatory to visit Aadhaar center for IRIS and biometric update.

UIDAI has launched this free service for millions of Aadhaar cardholders with the aim of keeping their information accurate and updated. The purpose of extending the deadline till December 14, 2024 is to ensure that all eligible citizens can update their details without any last-minute hassles.
