Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana, an initiative aimed at empowering women and boosting employment opportunities in the insurance sector. The program, spearheaded by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), is expected to provide jobs to 2 lakh women over the next three years.
Key Features of the Bima Sakhi Yojana

Women-Centric Employment:
- The scheme focuses on recruiting women insurance agents.
- Women aged 18-70 years with a minimum qualification of 10th pass are eligible.

Employment and Training:
- Participants will undergo specialized training to enhance financial literacy and promote insurance awareness.
- Training will last for three years, with the aim of enabling women to become self-sufficient LIC agents.

Salary Structure:
- Year 1: ₹7,000 per month.
- Year 2: ₹6,000 per month.
- Year 3: ₹5,000 per month.
- Additionally, agents will earn commission-based incentives.

Career Advancement:
- Graduate Bima Sakhis will have opportunities to be promoted as Development Officers within LIC.
Objective of the Scheme
- Insurance for All: The program aligns with the government’s vision of ensuring comprehensive insurance coverage across the nation.
- Women Empowerment: By providing meaningful employment and skill development, the initiative aims to remove barriers to women’s progress and financial independence.
- Economic Impact: LIC plans to appoint 2 lakh Bima Sakhis within three years, contributing to job creation and financial stability in households.
Additional Initiatives by the Prime Minister
During the launch, PM Modi also inaugurated the main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University in Karnal, Haryana. The campus, along with six regional research stations, is being built at a cost of over ₹700 crore, spread across 495 acres.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of initiatives like the Bima Sakhi Yojana in removing obstacles for women and creating opportunities for them to succeed. He highlighted the success of programs like Lakhpati Didi, which has already benefited 1.15 crore women, with plans to expand it to 3 crore beneficiaries.
This initiative marks a significant step toward financial inclusion and the empowerment of women in India.
