Everyone has documents like an Aadhaar card, voter ID, and PAN card. They are needed for everything from opening a bank account to many other works. Apart from this, these documents also work as your address proof. But if a person from your family dies due to any reason, then what should be done with these documents? Many people do not know about this. Know here so that no one can take wrong advantage of the documents after the death of the person.
Voter ID
You get a chance to vote only through voter ID. But after someone's death, you can get his voter ID card canceled. For this, you have to go to the election office and fill out Form-7, after which this card will be canceled. To cancel the voter ID, the death certificate of the deceased may be needed.
Aadhaar card
There is currently no system to cancel or surrender the Aadhaar card, but you can lock it. To lock the Aadhaar card, you have to go to the official website - www.uidai.gov.in. Select 'My Aadhaar' here and then click on 'Aadhaar Services'. After this, click on Lock/Unlock Biometrics. Now enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number and the given captcha code here. Also, select the Send OTP option. OTP will come on the registered mobile number, enter it. After this, you will get the option to lock/unlock the biometric data, which you can choose. Biometric data will be locked as soon as you click on the Lock button. Apart from this, if the person is taking advantage of any scheme or subsidy through Aadhaar before his death, then the concerned department should be informed about the death of the person. So that his name is removed from the scheme.
PAN Card
Along with paying income tax, a PAN card is required for many works like opening a bank and demat account. But if the PAN card holder dies, then his family members should surrender his card. For this, the family member of the deceased will have to contact the Income Tax Department. Before surrendering, all the accounts of the deceased should be transferred to the name of another person or closed. So that there is no problem in this work later.
Passport
Like the Aadhar card, there is no provision for canceling the passport as well. After its expiry date, it automatically becomes invalid. In such a situation, keep your passport safe till its expiry date, so that it does not fall into the wrong hands.
