UPI Lite has made online transactions significantly easier by removing the need for internet connectivity. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) continuously enhances UPI with new features for user convenience. Now, NPCI is set to add a new feature to UPI Lite that will alleviate many common issues users face with online transactions.

UPI Lite is a simplified version of UPI, designed to facilitate transactions without requiring an internet connection. It operates as an on-device wallet feature, allowing users to transfer small amounts of money in real-time without the need for internet access. Currently, UPI Lite is available on platforms such as BHIM and Paytm and is supported by eight banks. Users can make transactions up to ₹4,000 per day, with no limit on the number of transactions. Unlike standard UPI payments that require a 6 or 4-digit PIN, UPI Lite allows users to transfer money without a PIN. While standard UPI allows for both sending and receiving money, UPI Lite currently only supports debits.

Starting from October 31, UPI Lite will introduce an auto top-up feature. This new functionality will allow users to automatically add balance to their UPI Lite wallets, eliminating the hassle of manually topping up their accounts. According to NPCI's circular, users will be able to set up automatic balance replenishment using the auto top-up option.
Benefits of the Auto Top-Up Feature- Automatic Balance Addition: Users will no longer need to manually add funds to their UPI Lite wallet. The selected amount will be automatically transferred from the user's account to their UPI Lite wallet.
- Increased Convenience: This feature aims to ensure that users always have up to ₹2,000 loaded in their UPI Lite wallet, with the ability to make payments of up to ₹500 without needing a PIN.
- Flexibility: Users can enable or disable the auto top-up option at any time, giving them control over their wallet balance.
