New Delhi: The central government has started depositing interest at an annual rate of 8.25% in the accounts of EPFO (Employees' Provident Fund Organisation) account holders. This news is a relief for crores of account holders across the country, who were waiting for this update for a long time.
Although the Central Government has not yet fully transferred the interest amount to the accounts of all PF account holders, the wait is going to end soon, as the government has started the process of depositing the interest amount in EPF accounts.
The PF money of the employed people is also deducted from their salary, and now EPFO is going to deposit the interest amount in their accounts soon, which is a big relief for them. Around 7 crore account holders will get the benefit of this decision. However, no official information has been given yet regarding the deposit of interest amount.
According to pension managers, the EPFO has already started settling claims at an annual interest rate of 8.25%. The interest rate is calculated based on the income earned from EPFO's loans and equity investments. Following a recommendation by the Central Board of Trustees in February this year, the Finance Ministry in May approved the 8.25% interest rate, which will be credited to all active EPF members.
So far, the EPFO has settled 23,04,516 claims, disbursing a total amount of Rs 9,260.40 crore to members, including an annual interest rate of 8.25%. In February, the EPFO had announced an 8.25% interest rate for the financial year 2023-24, which will be applicable to over 29 crore total subscribers, of whom about 6.8 crore are active contributors.
