The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced a new policy to hire retired officers and employees on a contract basis, aiming to address existing vacancies and tackle specialized work. This move, notified on Thursday, is intended to mitigate the impact of personnel shortages and ensure the organization’s work continues smoothly. To ensure that the organization does not suffer due to a lack of personnel or specific competencies, EPFO has introduced provisions for hiring retired employees and officers. The policy states that hiring specialized consultants through open market processes is time-consuming. Therefore, engaging retired officers and employees on a contractual basis will fulfill immediate requirements.
The initial contract period will be one year, extendable by another year. For those beyond the age of 62, the term may be extended by an additional three years, but not beyond 65 years of age. This extension will depend on a review of the task and the performance of the contract appointee.EPFO emphasized that these appointments are not intended for routine day-to-day work where regular staff is available. Instead, they will be made only in justified exigencies of official work. The organization has clarified that such appointments should not become a common practice and must be kept to a minimum. The policy aims to ensure that EPFO's operations are not hampered due to personnel shortages, particularly in areas requiring specialized skills that current employees may lack. This strategic move is expected to fill the gap swiftly, maintaining the organization's efficiency and service quality.By hiring experienced retired personnel, EPFO hopes to leverage their expertise while navigating the lengthy process of filling vacancies through traditional hiring methods.READ NEXT
