UPI Daily Transaction Limit! How much transactions will UPI users be able to do in a day in FY 2024-25

UPI daily transaction limit: The daily transaction limit set by NPCI is ₹1 lakh per day. This daily limit of UPI transactions is the maximum amount that can be transferred in a single transaction.


Additionally, each user is entitled to make 20 transactions in a 24-hour period.

When a user wishes to transact more than 20 times, he or she will have to wait for another 24 hours before being allowed to make the transfer.

These limits may vary from bank to bank as some banks have imposed weekly or monthly limits on UPI transactions and have reduced the NPCI limit to ₹ 25,000 for their users.

 

The limit of ₹ 1,00,000 is an overall limit, banks can choose any amount within it.

In terms of number of transactions, UPI app Google Pay limits it to 10 transactions per day, while PhonePe and AmazonPay allow up to 20 transactions per day depending on the banks.

For payments related to capital markets, collection insurance and foreign inward remittances, the applicable transaction limit is ₹ 2,00,000.

This limit has been increased to Rs 5 lakh for payments related to educational institutions and healthcare.

Interchange Fee

UPI payments through digital wallets like PhonePe, Paytm and Amazon Pay attract an interchange fee of up to 1.1% on certain merchant payments above ₹ 2,000. This is paid by the merchant and regular customers are not charged such transaction fees.

Interchange fees are also applicable on UPI transactions made through prepaid payment instruments such as wallets. These charges depend on the merchant category.

  • 0.5% fee on fuel-related transactions.
  • 0.7% duty is payable on post office, telecom, utility, agriculture and education.
  • Supermarket payments are taxed at 0.9%.
  • 1.1% duty is payable on insurance, mutual funds and railway services.
  • The merchant who is accepting UPI payments is responsible for paying the interchange fee.
