The trend of UPI payment is growing very fast in the country. Currently, almost all merchants, from roadside vendors to shopping outlets in large malls, accept UPI payments. However, while on the one hand, these online methods make things easier, on the other hand, they also increase the risk of scams.
Meanwhile, a new scam related to UPI has surfaced which ICICI Bank has also advised people to be cautious about. Talking about the fraud scheme, under this scam, fraudsters make phone calls and say that they have mistakenly entered some information on your UPI ID. Money has been transferred.
According to ICICI Bank, the whole game here is the decimal which is neatly placed in the middle of a 5-digit number. For example, they may claim to send you Rs 20,000 but the actual amount may be only Rs 200 ie 200.00.
Meanwhile, some people transfer money in haste without checking transaction history or balance and fall victim to UPI fraud. The only way to avoid this is to carefully check the amount received after receiving such calls.
UPI payments are generally secure but common mistakes people make can lead to them losing their hard-earned money. Earlier, some fraudsters also set up such QR codes, where any UPI payment directly reaches the fraudsters.
Although this information is very common, which most people would know, UPI fraud is still prevalent because not everyone is aware of these tricks of fraudsters.
