In March 2024, filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap put up an Instagram post announcing that he would not help newcomers in the industry and would start charging people for his. It was one of the first steps by Kashyap to start to put up boundaries between his own needs and what others expected of him. Here's what the Gangs of Wasseypur filmmaker had to say about it.
Anurag Kashyap on his viral Instagram post
Speaking with Zoom, Anurag Kashyap revealed why he had to resort to putting that Instagram post. He stated, "I'm exhausted with not just free advice. The problem is, advice aap kisko doge, jo aadmi khudki help nahin kar sakta, usko kahan se help karoge. If somebody can't stand up for themselves, there's no point in me standing up for them. It's taken me a long time to realise. I've not come here to change people's lives. Mujhe parmatma ne nahin bheja hai. I've come here to make my own films. I'll do things with people I want to do."Kashyap went on to say that too many people have wasted his time trying to be mentored. Earlier, he would try and watch whole films but now when he doesn't like something, he gets up in ten minutes. He doesn't have that much time to waste.
Anurag Kashayp on creating boundaries
The filmmaker feels he doesn't have enough energy to create films just yet, instead he is focusing on acting for a bit. Kashyap, who is acting in the Disney+ Hotstar web series Bad Cop next, shared, "I have learned to draw my boundaries. Pehle, I was just too polite to say no to people. Of course, things that I believed in, I would champion and love to help it. Now there is a process. I've realised that I don't have to be the first one to see it or discover it."Anurag Kashyap also revealed that he knows enough people around him to tell him when something is good to discover it. He gets tired trying to watch everything. He stressed, "I'm prioritising myself. Once I get back to my full 100 per cent physical and mental health, then I will do things."
