UPI Goes Global! Digital Payment Service Now Available In 7 Countries

New Delhi: India has been making strides with its Unified Payments Interface, commonly known as UPI. With the launch of UPI services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, the digital payments service has gone global.
As per the latest information from the Government of India, UPI as a payments platform, has been launched in seven countries outside India.
The most recent launches were made in Sri Lanka and Mauritius for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present virtually, along with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
The first time UPI was launched outside India was in Bhutan. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) signed an agreement with the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan and launched UPI services in the Himalayan country in 2021. After Bhutan, UPI was expanded to six other countries over the span of three years.
