Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given some relief to the poor from the price hike by reducing the price of cooking gas cylinders for household use by Rs 100 as a special offer on the occasion of International Women's Day, quite unexpectedly. The announcement, which will significantly reduce the financial burden of lakhs of families across the country, was well received. With this, the cooking gas cylinder sold at Rs.918 will be reduced by Rs.100 and will be sold at Rs.818.
Along with this gift from the central government, the government of Uttar Pradesh has also given a gift to the people. The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has gifted free cylinders to around 2 crore families on the occasion of Holi. On the occasion of Holi, the Government of Uttar Pradesh is providing free cylinders to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. It is to be noted that the scheme was announced by the Uttar Pradesh government in November last year.
Free Cylinder Scheme of Uttar Pradesh Govt
On the occasion of Holi, the Yogi Adityanath government is all set to provide free cylinders to 2 crore Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries. Last year, the Yogi government announced the prize on the occasion of Diwali in November. According to it, Uttar Pradesh Government will provide free cylinders to Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries twice a year. Free cooking gas cylinders will be provided to these beneficiaries on the occasion of Diwali and Holi. Around 2 crore families in the state will benefit from this. It is noteworthy that the Yogi government has allocated a fund of Rs 2312 crore for this project. Apart from Holi, the government will also provide free gas cylinders to Ujjawala scheme beneficiaries ahead of Diwali.
Conditions for availing benefits under the free cylinder scheme
The government has also imposed certain conditions to avail the benefit of the government's free cylinder scheme. The beneficiary must be eligible for the Ujjwala scheme to avail of the benefits of this scheme. This offer is available only to the beneficiaries residing in Uttar Pradesh. That means only the people of Uttar Pradesh will get the benefit of this scheme. Linking your bank account with an Aadhaar card is mandatory to get a free gas cylinder under this scheme.
Ujjwala scheme launched in 2016
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in 2016 to make it easier to buy cooking gas cylinders. Under this scheme, the government provides a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder. The grant is available till 31 March 2025. Under this scheme, a family can get 12 cylinders in a year at a subsidized price. Under this scheme, free gas connections have been provided to more than 9 crore households in the country so far.
