Wednesday is going to be a special day for the farmers of Ujjain district. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will inaugurate Samakota Barrage after reaching Jharra tehsil. This big water project built on the small Kalisindh river is expected to change the picture of farming in the area. Farmers, who have been waiting for better irrigation facilities for a long time, will now have to worry less about water for their crops.

Built at a cost of about Rs 188.42 crore, this barrage aims to provide water for agriculture and reduce the increasing dependence on groundwater. After the commencement of the project, thousands of hectares of agricultural land will be able to get regular irrigation facility. With this, it is expected that along with increasing the production capacity of the farmers, their income will also improve.

Samakota Barrage Project will change the picture of farming

Samakota Barrage Project is being considered among the important irrigation schemes of Malwa region. Its water storage capacity is 17.57 million cubic meters, through which water will be supplied to 7236 hectares of agricultural land through pipelines. This system will also save water compared to traditional irrigation methods and farmers will get the benefit of timely irrigation.

About 11 thousand farmer families of 18 villages including Nalkheda, Panodiya, Neemkheda, Ghattiyajassa, Melakhedi, Khoriapadma, Kherla, Lasudianhata, Nagpura, Chhajjukhedi, Delakhedi, Dungarkhedi, Khedamadda, Kason, Mahidpuriya, Somchidi and Jharda will get direct benefit of this project. Experts believe that with the strengthening of irrigation facilities, farmers will be able to move towards growing two or three crops instead of one crop. This will also strengthen the agricultural economy of the area and increase economic activities in rural areas.

Education, health and electricity facilities will also be strengthened

During the Chief Minister’s visit, not only will the barrage be inaugurated, but the area will also get the gift of many other important development works. Projects to education, health and energy sectors worth more than Rs 19 crore will be dedicated to the public. These include the new college building prepared by the Higher Education Department, Semalia, Mahidpur Road and Girls School building of Kundikheda.

Apart from this, 33/11 KV power sub-station will also be inaugurated in Mochikheda, which is expected to further improve the power supply in the area. 13 new sub health center buildings of Jharra area will also be dedicated to the people. With the opening of these health centres, people in rural areas will not have to go far for treatment and primary health services will be available at the local level.

Overall, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will dedicate development works worth about Rs 207 crore to the public. This visit is not limited to the inauguration of just one project, but is believed to give new direction to development in many important sectors like agriculture, education, health and electricity. Local people hope that the benefits of these schemes will give a new impetus to the development of the area in the coming years.
