Arne Slot’s Exit Opens Door for Liverpool Winger’s Revival

Liverpool have undergone their second managerial overhaul in just three summers.

Arne Slot had succeeded Jurgen Klopp as head coach at Anfield in May 2024, leading the Reds to a memorable Premier League triumph during his debut campaign in charge.

However, the Dutchman’s tenure unravelled swiftly as Liverpool’s title defence collapsed within months, prompting the club to dismiss him unceremoniously.

It was well known that Slot’s relationship with several first-team players was strained, most notably with Mohamed Salah. The Egypt international did not shy away from publicly criticising the former Feyenoord manager after agreeing to end his nine-year stint on Merseyside last season.

Federico Chiesa was another player who struggled for favour under Slot, failing to start a single Premier League match in the previous campaign as the Reds’ season fell apart under the Dutchman’s leadership.

The Italian winger was even tipped for a return to Serie A, with his former club Juventus reportedly weighing up a move during the January transfer window.

Although no transfer materialised, Chiesa has continued to attract interest from Italy, with newly promoted Champions League side Como emerging as potential contenders alongside Juventus.

Nevertheless, the 28-year-old now appears open to remaining at Liverpool — a scenario that seemed improbable just months ago — as he searches for consistent first-team opportunities.

“If I don’t find consistency in the Premier League, I’ll have to look elsewhere,” Chiesa recently told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

He added, “I barely played during my first year at Liverpool, and last season was no different. I’ll join the pre-season camp in the United States, then speak with the club and the new manager, Iraola, and we’ll see what happens.”

According to reports from TuttoJuve via Sport Witness, Chiesa’s renewed determination to fight for his place has been influenced by Slot’s sudden exit in late May, which appears to have changed his outlook on his Liverpool future.
