On Tuesday, TMC MP Kirti Azad launched a fierce critique against 20 rebel members of his party who have joined the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). He labeled these MPs as traitors and questioned the legal legitimacy of the political organization they have aligned with. In a conversation with a news media outlet, Azad dismissed the actions of the breakaway faction and confirmed that the TMC has officially communicated its stance to the Lok Sabha Speaker.
Azad emphasized that their letter to the Speaker clearly states that the authentic TMC belongs to Mamata Banerjee, as she is the leader of the party. He described the letter submitted by the 20 rebel MPs as misleading. Furthermore, Azad asserted that this move was driven by personal ambitions rather than ideological beliefs, alleging that there were disagreements among the rebel leaders regarding potential ministerial positions.
He pointed out that there is infighting among the traitors over who will become the Minister of State (MoS). The party they have joined lacks any representation in Parliament, being an unrecognized and unregistered entity with no established identity. The TMC leader condemned this action as anti-democratic, arguing that given the current status of the NCPI, the merger holds no political or legal significance.
Azad stated, 'It is undemocratic. How can you align with a party that has no existence? They are fighting for positions in a party that does not even exist on the parliamentary map.' This development comes amid significant turmoil in West Bengal politics, where 20 TMC Lok Sabha MPs have merged with the NCPI and pledged support to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
