UPSC CSE Prelims Result: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the results for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026 preliminary stage. The wait for the lakhs of candidates who appeared for the exam is now over. The Commission has released the list of successful candidates on its official website.

According to the results, a total of 13,343 candidates have been selected for the Main examination. Meanwhile, 1,046 candidates have successfully qualified in the preliminary examination conducted for the Indian Forest Service (IFS).

Over 5 lakh candidates took the exam.
More than 5.01 lakh candidates appeared for the preliminary examination. The Commission stated that the result of one candidate has been withheld for the time being. A total of 933 vacancies are to be filled through this recruitment drive. The selection process comprises the preliminary examination, the main examination (Mains), and the personality test (interview).

Preliminary exam held on May 24
UPSC conducted the Civil Services preliminary examination on May 24, 2026, at 2,073 centers across the country. The exam was held in two shifts.

The examination consisted of two papers. The first paper was of the objective type, featuring multiple-choice questions. The second paper was based on subjects prescribed under the examination rules and carried a total of 400 marks. Notably, the Commission had released the answer key for the preliminary examination on May 28, 2026.

Recruitment for prestigious services, including IAS, IPS, and IFS
The UPSC Civil Services Examination is considered one of the most prestigious competitive exams in the country. It is used to select candidates for various central services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Forest Service (IFS). Candidates who have qualified in the preliminary examination will now appear for the Main examination, which is considered the second and most crucial stage of the selection process.
