Introduction to Relationship OCD (ROCD)

Relationship obsessive-compulsive disorder, known as ROCD, can have a negative impact on relationships. It is a mental health problem in which a person has to face unwanted thoughts which come to his mind again and again. For example, someone may feel that their hands have germs on them, even though they have washed them thoroughly. Similarly, thoughts that are to OCD may arise in relationships.

Symptoms of ROCD

Many times, people remain doubtful about their relationships. They may check their partner’s phone or be overly possessive. In cases of ROCD, the person is always afraid that their relationship may break.

What is Relationship OCD (ROCD)?

According to compulsive therapist Tamara Hoyton, everyone has doubts about their relationship sometimes. But when these doubts increase and become persistent, it may be a sign of ROCD. A person affected by this condition often remains immersed in negative thinking and considers himself guilty.

Symptoms of ROCD

If a person focuses excessively on their partner’s shortcomings, it may be a sign of ROCD. Such people look for perfection in their partner and expect excessive trust or comfort from them.

They often question their partner’s love and their own feelings and feel a need for constant validation. Apart from this, they also compare their relationship with the relationships of others.

Could the suspicions be correct?

If your partner suddenly becomes silent, hides things, or has changes in their behavior, it may be a sign that there is a problem in the relationship. Sometimes, suspicions arise because certain warning signs are present.

Ways to deal with ROCD

Experts say that if you are struggling with ROCD, you should not feel guilty. Instead of suppressing your feelings, talk openly with your partner.

Instead of getting stuck in a cycle of recurring thoughts, talk to a trusted person or professional. Sharing your thoughts can reduce mental stress.

If there is any doubt, take time to consider it; Responding hastily may make the situation worse.
