When it comes to powerful acting on the cinematic screen or making headlines with her outspoken style, Kangana Ranaut always steals the show. But these days she has become the talk of the town for some other reason. That reason is her confidence and charming ethnic fashion sense. Kangana, who is out to promote her upcoming big film, is not only promoting her art but also the centuries-old rich cultural heritage of India. After recently dazzling in a beautiful ‘Paithani saree’ at the premiere of her film in Delhi, this actress turned politician ‘Queen’ has now done something in the blue city of Rajasthan i.e. Jodhpur, which is being talked about in the entire fashion world. Kangana was seen in Gujarat’s traditional and world famous ‘Patan Patola’ saree at a grand event in Jodhpur.
Kangana’s Gujarati style seen in Jodhpur
Every look of Kangana Ranaut tells a story in itself. When she was stepping into the cultural background of Jodhpur, she chose one of the finest and most expensive handloom crafts of India. Kangana wore a very beautiful white colored Patan Patola saree from the collection of the famous fashion brand ‘Frontier Raas’. The biggest feature of this saree was its unique and traditional draping style. The 40-year-old actress wore this saree very elegantly in ‘Seedha Pallu’ (Gujarati drape) style.
What is straight pallu style?
Generally women use ‘Nivi Drape’, in which the pallu of the saree hangs from the left shoulder at the back. In contrast, in the straight pallu style, the pallu is brought from the back and thrown forward over the right shoulder, thereby extending completely over the chest. This drape not only gives a regal and elegant look to the wearer, but also perfectly showcases the intricate workmanship done on the saree and its traditional designs. Very beautiful and symmetrical patterns were made on this white saree of Kangana with shades of red colors. In Indian culture these designs are considered a symbol of prosperity, good luck and positive energy.
Gajra and oxidized jewelery
Kangana Ranaut and her stylist team know very well how to keep the rest of the accessories and makeup balanced when the dress is so heavy and historical. Kangana paid close attention to every smallest detail to make her look perfect. Kangana pulled her curly hair back and made a neatly tied low bun. She decorated this bun with a garland of fresh white jasmine flowers. The scent of jasmine and its whiteness added a vintage and classic Indian touch to her look.
Regal Jewelry Choice
In the matter of jewellery, Kangana expressed confidence in the designs of the famous ‘Amrapali Jewellers’. She wore a stunning choker necklace around her neck, with matching oxidized earrings in her ears and traditional kada in her hands completing her royal look. This combination of silver and oxidized jewelery looked great on the white and red Patola saree.
minimal makeup
Talking about makeup, Kangana chose ‘minimal’ or nude-glowing aesthetic. Her base makeup was very light and natural, due to which the natural glow of her face was clearly visible. A light touch of blush on the cheeks and red lipstick on the lips increased her glamor manifold. Finally, a small black bindi adorned on her forehead added charm to her traditional Indian look.
History and price of Patan Patola
At present, the biggest discussion among fashion lovers is about the price of Kangana’s saree. According to fashion experts, the range of these exclusive Patan Patola sarees of ‘Frontier Raas’ brand starts from Rs 55,000 to Rs 2,58,000. The masterpiece that Kangana wore falls at the upper end of this range. But why does a saree cost so much? Behind it lies 700 years of glorious history and hard work.
Choice of kings and art of Salvi community
Patan Patola sarees originated in Patan district of Gujarat more than 700 years ago. Historically, these are made by a select number of weavers from the ‘Salvi’ community. In ancient times, it was considered a status symbol by kings, emperors and royal families. Only women of the elite class had the privilege of wearing it.
Magic technique of double ikat
The biggest feature of Patan Patola is its ‘Double Ikat’ weaving technique. In this, both the warp and weft threads are dyed very minutely before weaving. The process is so complex that the threads come together in such a way that the fabric looks exactly the same on both sides i.e. there is no ‘reverse’ or ‘straight’ part of this saree; It can be worn on both sides. Only natural and vegetable dyes are used to color these sarees, which do not fade for centuries. Symmetrical designs inspired by nature like elephant, parrot, peacock, flowers and geometric shapes are usually made on the cloth. It can take several months to a year to hand-weave an authentic Patan Patola saree. This is why it is called the ‘jewel’ of Indian handloom.
