Rangers have officially secured the signing of Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland, with the forward describing the move as a fulfilment of a lifelong "dream" to represent his childhood club.
The 30-year-old striker has joined Rangers for an undisclosed fee, agreeing to a two-year contract at Ibrox. This transfer brings to a close his highly successful four-year spell at Tynecastle Park.
During his time with Hearts, Shankland netted 88 goals in 171 matches, captaining the side as they came within minutes of lifting the Scottish Premiership title. In that period, no player scored more league goals than his impressive tally of 72.
While Hearts supporters have understandably been left disappointed by his departure, the Scotland international explained that the offer was impossible to refuse. He said, "Rangers is my boyhood club and it has always been a dream to play here, so I was really keen to get it done."
He further added, "The club are determined to get back to winning trophies consistently, and I want to play a major role in that. That’s exactly why I have come here."
Shankland’s transfer will be officially completed once the transfer window opens on June 15th. By that time, he will be with the Scotland national team, preparing for the World Cup.
