Bruno Fernandes has shattered the record for the most assists in a single Premier League season, with his 21st assist setting up Patrick Dorgu to give Manchester United the lead against Brighton.

The Portuguese playmaker surpassed the previous joint record held by Arsenal icon Thierry Henry and former Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne on the final day of the season at the Amex Stadium.

This achievement comes just two days after the 31-year-old was crowned the Premier League’s Player of the Season, following his earlier recognition as the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year. Fernandes has been instrumental in guiding Manchester United back into the UEFA Champions League after a remarkable campaign.

Having started 35 league matches this season, Fernandes has been at the core of Michael Carrick’s successful tenure as interim manager. He also becomes the first United player to claim the honour since 2011, when Nemanja Vidić lifted his last league title with the club.

Throughout this Premier League season, Fernandes has created 132 chances — the highest by any player — further highlighting his extraordinary creative influence.

Carrick has now signed a two-year deal to remain Manchester United’s permanent manager until 2028, with an option for an additional year. His success in returning the club to European competition has been significantly driven by Fernandes’ consistent and outstanding performances.
