Mohamed Salah has confirmed that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the current season.
Both Liverpool and Salah announced the decision on official channels. The club stated, “Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to supporters at the earliest opportunity to ensure transparency about his future, reflecting his deep respect and gratitude towards them.”
The Egyptian forward, fondly known as the ‘Egyptian King’, will leave Merseyside as the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history.
Since arriving at Anfield in 2017, Salah has cemented his place as one of the finest footballers ever to grace English football.
Ranked fifth in FourFourTwo’s list of the greatest Premier League players of all time, the 33-year-old has collected a remarkable list of honours with Liverpool, including two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, two League Cups, and a Community Shield.
Over his Liverpool career, Salah has scored more than 100 goals and has earned three PFA Player of the Year awards. He has also managed to net at least 20 goals in every season he has played for the Reds.
This season, however, has seen a dip in his form, with the Egyptian scoring only 10 goals in 34 matches across all competitions. Still, statistics show Liverpool are seven times more likely to win when Salah is on the pitch.
Earlier this season, Salah was at the centre of transfer speculation after a tense period that sparked discussions about his possible departure in January. Jamie Carragher even delivered a passionate analysis of the situation on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
Under Arne Slot, Salah’s role has become more limited, a difficult adjustment for a player who has been the focal point of Liverpool’s attack since his arrival. With his 34th birthday approaching and strong interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, there are suggestions that the No.11 might be entering the twilight phase of his career.
Despite speculation, Salah’s current contract, which he renewed last summer, runs until 2027.
In their official statement, Liverpool added, “With plenty still left to play for this season, Salah remains fully committed to achieving the highest possible finish for Liverpool. The time to truly celebrate his legacy and contributions will come later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”
According to Transfermarkt, Salah’s current market value stands at €30 million. Liverpool’s next fixture will see them face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals following the international break.
