Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has joined an exclusive group of players following the club’s emphatic victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

The Red Devils wrapped up their 2025/26 Premier League season in style, with a convincing 3-0 win against Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Despite already securing third place before kick-off, United put in a commanding performance to defeat the Seagulls, who were still in the running for a Champions League spot.

Patrick Dorgu and Bryan Mbeumo both scored in the first half, putting United firmly in control at halftime. Bruno Fernandes provided the assist for Dorgu’s opener, surpassing Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry’s previous record to set a new benchmark for most assists in a single Premier League season (21).

Shortly after the interval, Fernandes found the net himself, effectively sealing the win for United.

Manager Michael Carrick once again included Shaw in his starting line-up, deploying him at left-back alongside Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, and Lisandro Martinez in defence.

By starting his 38th Premier League match of the season, Shaw has now featured in every top-flight game for United this campaign — a remarkable achievement that places him in a rare circle of players.

Given Shaw’s past injury challenges during his time with United, his consistency and fitness this season highlight his exceptional determination and professionalism.

He now becomes only the fifth outfield player in Manchester United’s history to start every match in a Premier League season. Additionally, three goalkeepers have accomplished this feat.

Club legend Steve Bruce was the first to achieve it in the 1992/93 season, followed by Denis Irwin in 1993/94 and Gary Pallister in 1994/95.

Interestingly, those three defenders achieved this record during 42-match seasons when the Premier League featured 22 clubs.

It then took a quarter of a century for another outfield United player to match it — Harry Maguire in the 2019/20 season.

Among goalkeepers, Cameroonian international Andre Onana was the most recent to complete every league fixture for United, doing so in the 2023/24 season. Peter Schmeichel achieved it in 1992/93, while David de Gea managed the feat on three separate occasions — in 2018/19, 2019/20, 2021/22, and 2022/23.
