NPCI Soundbox Update: The NPCI is preparing to introduce an interoperable soundbox system that will allow shopkeepers to receive payment alerts from all UPI apps—such as PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm—using just a single device.

NPCI Soundbox Update: Nowadays, most shopkeepers utilize QR codes from various payment apps; amidst their busy daily routines, they also rely on soundboxes provided by companies like PhonePe, BharatPe, and Paytm. Managing all these soundboxes simultaneously can be quite challenging. Furthermore, shopkeepers are currently required to purchase separate subscriptions for each soundbox, which leads to increased operational costs. However, there is now some relieving news for them.

The NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) is devising a new method to streamline the process of accepting UPI payments. The proposal involves creating an interoperable system where a single soundbox can provide transaction notifications for all UPI apps (such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, etc.). This will eliminate the need to clutter the counter with a stack of different soundboxes.

Receive Alerts for All UPI Payments via a Single Soundbox

Reports indicate that the NPCI is developing a system where, regardless of which app a customer uses to make a payment, the shopkeeper will receive an audio notification regarding that payment through that very same device. This will make accepting digital payments significantly easier for everyone—whether they are small-scale vendors or large-scale merchants. Managing payments often becomes difficult during festive seasons when crowds are heavy; this new system will resolve that issue, as all notifications will be consolidated within a single device.

Making the Shopkeeper's Job Easier

Under this new system, shopkeepers will only need to register their soundbox with a single payment app, and they will be able to link their other QR codes to it as well. In other words, no matter which app a customer uses to make a payment, the confirmation will be announced via that one central soundbox—thereby making the shopkeeper's daily operations much simpler.
