New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Thursday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s five-nation foreign tour as “historic” and strategically transformative for India. Speaking at a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Goyal highlighted how the trip significantly strengthened India’s global standing in energy security, investment, green technology, and international trade.
A Landmark Diplomatic Journey
The Prime Minister returned to India on May 21 after visiting the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy from May 15 to May 20.
According to Goyal, the tour was not only aimed at enhancing diplomatic relations but also at ensuring long-term energy security, attracting foreign investment, and positioning India as a global hub for future technologies.
Global Respect for Modi’s Leadership
Piyush Goyal emphasized that the warm reception Modi received in every country was a reflection of global respect for India’s growing credibility and strength. “The entire world respects Modi’s policies,” Goyal said, noting that the Prime Minister’s visits conveyed a clear message that India now stands prominently on the world stage.
Engagement with Global Industry Leaders
During the tour, Prime Minister Modi met with CEOs of over 50 major international companies, discussing expanded investment and collaboration in sectors such as semiconductors, green technology, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. Goyal underlined that these engagements signal India’s ambition to transition from a market economy to a global manufacturing and technology powerhouse.
Key Agreements and Historic Visits
Netherlands: Seventeen major agreements were signed on green energy, renewable energy, flood control, and climate action, strengthening bilateral cooperation in sustainable development.
Sweden: Modi was conferred Sweden’s highest civilian honor, with discussions focusing on defense, innovation, high technology, and trade partnerships.
Norway: Marking the first Indian PM visit in 43 years, Modi met with Norway’s Prime Minister and King Harald V, boosting collaboration in energy, maritime affairs, and environmental initiatives.
Italy: India and Italy reviewed the Joint Strategic Action Plan (2025–29), aiming to increase bilateral trade to $23.2 billion by 2029. Agreements covered critical minerals, maritime transport, agriculture, higher education, and combating financial crimes.
A Strong Message to the World
