Rajasthan Royals bounced back in style after three consecutive defeats, defeating Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets in a thrilling high-scoring IPL 2026 clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday.
Chasing a daunting target of 221, Rajasthan rode on a sensational innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who smashed 93 runs off just 38 balls to lead the hosts to victory with five balls to spare. His explosive knock, laced with seven fours and 10 sixes, powered RR to 225 for 3 in 19.1 overs and gave the team its first win of the season in Jaipur.
The victory also revived Rajasthan’s playoff hopes after a difficult run of form.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants posted an imposing 220 for 5 after being asked to bat first. Mitchell Marsh starred with a brilliant 96 off 57 deliveries, narrowly missing out on a century after being run out by a direct hit from Yashasvi Jaiswal in the closing overs.
Josh Inglis provided strong support with a quickfire 60 off 29 balls, helping LSG dominate the middle overs. Captain Rishabh Pant chipped in with a brisk 35, while Nicholas Pooran added 16 before falling to Yash Raj Punja, who impressed with figures of 2 for 35.
Despite a flying start, LSG failed to fully capitalise in the final overs. Jofra Archer struck with a pinpoint yorker on the last ball of the innings to dismiss Ayush Badoni, ensuring Rajasthan kept the target within reach.
Rajasthan’s chase began aggressively with Yashasvi Jaiswal hammering 43 off 23 balls. However, the night belonged to Sooryavanshi, who unleashed a stunning display of fearless batting against both pace and spin.
The young batter cleared the ropes at will, dismantling the LSG attack with clean and powerful hitting across the ground. His attacking approach shifted the momentum entirely in Rajasthan’s favour and left Lucknow struggling for answers.
Dhruv Jurel played the perfect supporting role with an unbeaten 53, calmly anchoring the innings and rotating strike efficiently. Donovan Ferreira remained unbeaten on 16 to finish the chase alongside Jurel.
Lucknow’s bowlers struggled to contain Rajasthan’s aggressive batting lineup. Mohsin Khan and Akash Maharaj Singh claimed one wicket each, but the rest of the attack proved expensive on a batting-friendly surface.
The match also saw crucial moments in the field, including the run-outs of Marsh and Pant, which ultimately hurt LSG in a contest decided by fine margins.
