Maruti Suzuki will launch a new electric MPV (YMC) by 2026. This vehicle based on eVitara will come with a range of 500+ km and RWD system. Its production will be in Gujarat.

Maruti Suzuki has started testing its new electric MPV (codenamed YMC). It is set to be launched by the end of 2026. Recently leaked pictures have revealed some special features of the design of this vehicle. It has a closed grill, in which air vents are provided to keep the battery cool. Its front bumper is also new. This new electric MPV will have headlamps and aero-optimized alloy wheels similar to the eVitara.

Talking about the rear of the car, the test model includes connected LED taillamps, a sporty bumper, reflectors and a shark-fin antenna. It is believed that this new Maruti electric MPV will be built on the Heartect-E platform of eVitara. In terms of length, it can be around 4.5 meters long.

What features will be available?

It is expected that the cabin layout and features of Maruti YMC will be similar to eVitara. Features like panoramic sunroof, large touchscreen infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, wireless phone charger, rear parking camera, multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensors and tire pressure monitoring system can be provided in it.

Battery pack options

Although Maruti has not yet officially informed about its powertrain, it is believed that this MPV can take 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs from eVitara. The small battery pack is connected to a front-axle mounted electric motor, which generates 144bhp of power and 193Nm of torque. At the same time, the larger 61kWh battery pack comes with a more powerful 174bhp/193Nm electric motor.

Range and Drivetrain System

The eVitara is claimed to offer a driving range of 440 kilometers with the 49kWh battery pack and 543 kilometers with the 61kWh battery pack. The upcoming Maruti YMC is expected to offer a range of more than 500 kilometers on a single charge. Another highlight is that while the Maruti eVitara comes with a FWD (front-wheel drive) setup, this MPV is expected to have a RWD (rear-wheel drive) system.

This new Maruti YMC along with eVitara will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki's Handalpur plant in Gujarat. This plant will also act as a production hub for exports to other countries including Europe and Japan.
