Arsenal fans can finally relax with their side now confirmed as Premier League champions after Manchester City's latest slip-up at Bournemouth. Pep Guardiola's side could only draw 1-1 against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, thanks to Eli Junior Kroupi's 38th minute goal.
Mikel Arteta's Gunners have ended a 22-year wait for a league title, clinching their first since the 'Invincibles' season with a game to spare. Arsenal will lift the trophy after their final match of the domestic campaign away to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. Attention will then turn to the Champions League final, as they face PSG on Saturday, May 30.
City's loss means that Arsenal are five points ahead of them with just one game of the campaign remaining. The Gunners will therefore pick up the Premier League trophy when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon (4pm kick-off).
Arsenal put pressure on Man City in the title race, thanks to their win over Burnley at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night. Kai Havertz's goal earned Arteta's side a 1-0 win and make the visit to Bournemouth a must-win for City.
Kroupi's goal proved to be the vital one, while City needed a goal as the minutes ebbed away, it was Bournemouth who had the chance to double their lead. They were denied by both Gianluigi Donnarumma and the woodwork.
They made it a nervous wait at the end with Erling Haaland finding the net to make it 1-1 deep into the six minutes of stoppage time. But that proved to be too late for City, with the final whistle prompting scenes of celebration at Arsenal.
Speaking on Sky Sports after full-time, pundit Jamie Carragher said of Arsenal: "It's an amazing achievement, I'm delighted for the club, for Mikel because he's taken a lot of criticism, can he get his team over the line?"
