During a trip to China alongside U.S. President Donald Trump and prominent American business leaders, Huang, the world’s seventh-richest person with an estimated net worth at US$194.5 billion according to the World’s Real-Time Billionaires updated by Forbes, took time to sample local cuisine.

As part of a food tour on May 15, Huang visited a noodle shop at 69 Fangzhuanchang in Beijing’s historic Nanluoguxiang area, where he tried the eatery’s signature zhajiangmian – noodles topped with black bean sauce and pork priced at 38 yuan ($5.58), AP reported.

After finishing his bowl of zhajiangmian, the tech billionaire sampled douzhi’er – a traditional fermented soy drink known for its sour taste and grayish-green color, prompting a grimace. He was also spotted at a Mixue Bingcheng outlet, where an employee recommended the chain’s 8-yuan peach oolong tea.

Videos and images of Huang enjoying the noodles and inexpensive drinks quickly spread across Chinese social media platforms, particularly Douyin, triggering a wave of public interest that soon translated into booming sales.

Capitalizing on the attention, Zhajiangmian Noodle Shop No. 69 Fangzhuanchang launched a “Jensen Huang check-in combo” on Douyin. On the platform’s shopping channel, a menu item named “Jensen Huang’s black bean noodles with roasted pork” rapidly surpassed 100,000 orders, Global Times reported.

Mixue Bingcheng has introduced a new “Boss’ Favorite” category at the top of its ordering mini program, featuring just one item – peach oolong tea – priced from 7 yuan per cup.

According to media reports, sales of the drink on Friday rose more than 90% from the same day a week earlier. At the Nanluoguxiang outlet visited by Huang, sales reportedly climbed by more than 90% over the previous period.

An employee at a Mixue Bingcheng store in Beijing’s Tongzhou district told the Global Times on Sunday that both inquiries and orders for the same drink chosen by Huang had increased significantly over the past two days.

Some users on Weibo remarked that Chinese businesses moved quickly to capitalize on the buzz, with one commenting that promotions for the “same-style” products appeared almost immediately after Huang was seen visiting the stores, sparking curiosity among consumers eager to try them for themselves.
