IPL 2026 has now reached a very exciting turn. Only 8 matches are left in the league stage but there is still a tough competition between 7 teams for the three playoff seats. At present, only Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has confirmed their place in the playoffs. After defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS), RCB not only reached the top-4 but also seems to be the strongest in the race to be in the top-2. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals (DC) are still in the race for the playoffs despite losing to Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 17.
RCB has qualified for the playoffs in IPL 2026, while Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are out. Apart from PBKS and DC, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are in the race for the playoffs.

Playoff equation of 7 teams for 3 seats
- Gujarat Titans: Gujarat is in a strong position with 16 points from 13 matches. All they have to do is win their last match against Chennai (CSK) and their playoff berth will be confirmed. Even if Gujarat loses, a defeat by either Chennai or Rajasthan will keep it in the top-4.
- Sunrisers Hyderabad: If Hyderabad, which has got 14 points from 12 matches, beats Chennai on Monday, it will qualify directly. With this, the ticket to Gujarat will also be confirmed. If it wins both the matches, Hyderabad can go into top-2 but if it loses both the matches, it can also be out.
- RR and CSK: Both the teams are struggling with 12 points in 12-12 matches. Rajasthan has lost the last three consecutive matches. To stay safe, both the teams will have to win both their remaining matches and reach 16 points.
- Kolkata Knight Riders: Kolkata currently has 11 points in 12 matches. If the team wins both its remaining matches against Mumbai and Delhi and the results of other teams also go in its favor, then it can reach the playoffs with 15 points. However, looking at the current situation, it seems very difficult for KKR to go to the playoffs.
- Delhi Capitals: At the same time, the net run-rate (-0.871) of Delhi Capitals is so bad that the team will have to win its last match against Kolkata at any cost. Along with this, Delhi will also have to hope that Punjab, Chennai and Rajasthan lose all their remaining matches.
