Watch: Sanju Samson Takes 'Worst DRS' of IPL 2026 During CSK vs SRH Clash
Cricket Gully | May 19, 2026 1:39 AM CST

In a bizarre DRS call during an IPL 2026 encounter between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the CSK opener Sanju Samson ended up with a major blunder after a review and it turns out to be one of the most surprising incidents of the tournament.

CSK's leading run-scorer in the current season has been in sublime touch and committed a massive blunder by taking a DRS appeal even though he clearly nicked the ball behind the wickets.

CSK opted to bat first after winning the toss and Samson was in amazing touch right from the start, he even smashed Nitish Kumar Reddy for a six on the very first ball of the innings and followed it with two boundaries in the same over.

His aggressive approach continued in the next over too as he hit three back to back boundaries and completed 27 runs off few balls. As the momentum got tilted towards CSK, SRH skipper Pat Cummins decided to bowl himself and the gamble paid off immediately.

Samson's DRS Blunder Costs CSK a Review

Cummins, who bowled the ball outside off, induced an edge which Samson couldn't help but nick it directly into the wicket-keeper's gloves, the sound of the nick was evident enough and umpire raised his finger immediately, but it was no deterrence for the CSK batsman.

Samson confidently took the DRS, but the replay confirmed a clear spike as the ball passed the bat and the original decision remained the same. Samson had to depart, having wasted a crucial DRS call in the initial part of the inning.

The wicket became the talk of the town as Samson himself was aware he had nicked it, being a wicket-keeper-batter he usually makes informed DRS calls which makes the dismissal a surprising one. The missed DRS left CSK with just one available for the rest of their batting innings.

Samson Still Enjoying Outstanding IPL 2026 Season

Despite of the DRS error, Samson has been one of the standout performers for CSK so far in the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League. Bringing him into the team as a part of the trade is certainly the most shrewd move by Chennai.

The Kerala batter began the IPL campaign poorly, but hit back emphatically with a scintillating century against the Delhi Capitals. He had some questions thrown at him before his hundred against the DC's after being dismissed for small scores in three games prior.

Since the innings against DC, Samson has consistently found himself among the top batsmen of the tournament. He even went on to register another century, this time against the Mumbai Indians, and has single-handedly carried the CSK middle-order on more than one occasion.

In the ongoing edition of the IPL, Samson has notched up 477 runs from 13 games at an average of 47.70 and a strike rate of 166.2. The efforts of Sanju Samson have been one of the prime reasons why the Super Kings are still in the playoff race nearing the end of the season.
