After the Indian Premier League ends, the Indian men's cricket team will be preparing for the Afghanistan series. It includes a one-off Test series followed by the three-match ODI series. With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma playing the One Day International only, fans were eagerly waiting for the duo to play again in the same jersey.
However, recent reports look to ruin such hopes. While Virat Kohli seemed to be physically fit for selections, Rohit Sharma might not make it into the side. On Tuesday, the Indian selectors will be having a meeting that will include Rohit Sharma's injury along with Jasprit Bumrah's workload management.
Currently Rohit is representing the Mumbai Indians. However, he could not play a few matches in the middle due to the hamstring injury. Mumbai featured Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton before Ro came back to the side. However, his bat could not do the talking with him, trolling himself for playing Test cricket.
Nevertheless, Ro's injury will be a concern for the Indian selectors. In such a situation, the selectors will be cautious of his physical capabilities given his age and the demand to field for at least 100 overs. Virat Kohli, however, looks untouched. His fitness is unharmed, and his form is in peak condition.

Jasprit Bumrah's possible workload management in Ind vs Afg series
As part of the Board of Control for Cricket in India's workload management policy following a demanding IPL 2026 season, Jasprit Bumrah is set to feature in only one format during India’s upcoming home series against Afghanistan in June. Having played uninterrupted high-intensity cricket, including India’s successful T20 World Cup title defense and a full IPL campaign for Mumbai Indians, Bumrah’s fitness remains a priority for the team management and selectors.
The selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, is reportedly inclined to field Bumrah only in the one-off Test scheduled in New Chandigarh from June 6 to 10, subject to medical clearance. He is expected to skip the three-match ODI series from June 14 to 20, with selectors unwilling to expose him to additional physical strain so soon after the IPL, especially with the ODI World Cup still over a year away.
There is also a possibility of complete rest if the BCCI medical staff detect any signs of fatigue or fitness concerns. Since the Afghanistan Test is outside the current World Test Championship cycle, the team has flexibility to manage senior pacers and assess alternatives such as Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Auqib Nabi, and Prince Yadav.
