In the wake of the CBSE Class 12 results, students have expressed concerns regarding the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. During a recent press briefing, the Education Secretary confirmed that students would receive a refund if their marks improve after re-evaluation.

Changes in Re-evaluation Fees

Since the release of the CBSE Class 12 results, discussions around re-evaluation and the OSM system have intensified. Many students took to social media to voice their dissatisfaction with the marks they received. To alleviate these concerns, the CBSE has significantly reduced the re-evaluation fee. Students can now access their answer sheets for a nominal fee of ₹100, down from ₹700. Additionally, the cost for re-evaluation is set at ₹25 per question. A pressing question remains: will students get their fees back if their marks increase after re-evaluation?

Refund Policy for Re-evaluation Fees

Full Fee Refund Policy

The CBSE has assured that if a student's marks rise after re-evaluation, the entire fee will be refunded. This announcement is seen as a significant relief for students, especially considering the overall decline in pass percentages this year, which dropped from 88% to 85%. Many students believe they deserved higher marks than what they received. The Board aims to ensure that students feel their efforts are recognized, as stated by Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar.

Controversy Surrounding the OSM System

Understanding the OSM System

This year, the CBSE implemented the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for evaluating Class 12 answer sheets. Under this method, answer sheets were scanned and assessed digitally. Following the results announcement, numerous students reported receiving lower marks than expected, particularly in subjects like Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Some students noted discrepancies between their JEE Main scores and their Board exam results. In response to these concerns, the CBSE clarified that the OSM system is not new and has been used in previous evaluations. Approximately 9.8 million answer sheets were scanned this year, with any that faced technical issues being evaluated manually.

Applying for Re-checking

Steps for Re-checking Application

Students who believe their marks are lower than anticipated can apply for re-checking through the official CBSE website. The process begins with an application for mark verification, which allows students to view their scanned answer sheets. If they find any discrepancies in the evaluation of specific questions, they can then request re-evaluation for those questions. The entire procedure is conducted online, and fees must be submitted electronically. Students should keep an eye on the Board's website for deadlines related to each stage of the process.
