Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again shown the strength of India at the global level. During his official visit to Sweden, Prime Minister Modi made a strong appeal to European companies to invest in India. He said that India’s ‘Reform Express’ is currently running at full speed. At a high-level meeting of the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) held in Gothenburg, Prime Minister Modi encouraged Swedish and European companies to increase their participation in India’s manufacturing, green hydrogen and clean energy sectors.
The special meeting was co-hosted by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and was attended by heads of several major European and Indian companies, including the Volvo Group.

Special focus on 5 key areas
Prime Minister Modi highlighted five key areas for cooperation with European companies. He said the two countries are working together in the areas of telecom and digital infrastructure, which can help India become a global research and development (R&D) hub. He also called for partnerships in the following key areas.
Deep Tech and AI: Electronics, Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Manufacturing.
Green and Clean Energy: National Green Hydrogen Mission and Sustainable Mobility.
Infrastructure and Healthcare: Urban transformation, state-of-the-art infrastructure, defence, semiconductors and life sciences (pharmaceuticals and health).
Prime Minister Modi assured the companies that a strong and institutional system will be created for them to be part of India’s major projects in the coming years. He emphasized that the next wave of technological innovation must now be co-created in India.
A mantra of improvement, performance and transformation
Addressing the round table meeting, Prime Minister Modi said that for the last 12 years, the Government of India has been working on the core mantra of ‘Reform, Performance and Transformation’. Our reform express is running at full speed due to strong political will. He described India’s young population, rapidly growing middle class and infrastructure development as the country’s biggest strengths. Modi said Sweden’s strength lies in innovation and sustainability, while India has “scope, talent and pace of development”. By combining these two, solutions to the challenges of the 21st century can be found.
The mother of all contracts
The Prime Minister appreciated the historic Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between India and the European Union (EU) in January 2026. He described it as a transformative economic partnership, which will create new opportunities in trade, technology, manufacturing and services. Echoing the words of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister Modi said that this is the “mother of all agreements” and we are trying to implement it as soon as possible. Referring to the India-Central East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), he said that this connectivity project will give a new dimension to India-Europe trade relations.
Elaborating on India’s vision, Prime Minister Modi said that our mission now is not just to make things in India, but to “design for India, manufacture in India and export from India to the world”. He also interacted with Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and select CEOs and explained that the India-Sweden relationship is no longer just a “buyer-seller” relationship, but has become a long-term industrial journey of ideas, technology and partnerships.
