New Delhi: The US government has expressed growing concern over Cuba’s military capabilities, following reports that Havana has acquired more than 300 military drones, raising fears of potential attacks on US targets.

According to Axios, intelligence sources indicate that Cuban officials have discussed scenarios involving drone strikes against the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, nearby military vessels, and even locations in Florida, including Key West, should tensions escalate.

Washington’s Concerns

US officials are particularly alarmed by the proximity of such technology to American territory, coupled with reports of Iranian military advisors in Cuba and deepening defense ties with Russia and Iran.

A senior official remarked, “When you consider the location of this technology and the presence of various hostile actors—from terrorist organizations and drug cartels to Iranian and Russian advisors—it becomes a serious threat.”

CIA Chief Visits Havana

In a development, CIA Director John Ratcliffe visited Cuba this week, delivering a stern warning to Cuban officials against any hostile actions. He also called on Havana to implement political reforms as a condition for easing US sanctions.

Cuba Rejects Allegations

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla dismissed the claims, accusing the US of using them as a pretext for sanctions or potential intervention. On social media, Rodríguez stated, “Cuba neither threatens anyone nor seeks war.”

He emphasized that Cuba reserves the right to defend itself, in accordance with the United Nations Charter. The Cuban Embassy also affirmed on ‘X’ that the nation is fully prepared to counter any external aggression.
