KL Rahul breaks De Villiers’ record, hits 9th IPL fifty against RR

In the 62nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Delhi Capitals (DC) star opener KL Rahul played a half-century against Rajasthan Royals (RR). In the chase of 194 runs, Rahul scored 56 runs in 42 balls, which included 1 four and 3 sixes. This was Rahul’s 9th half-century against RR. With this, he has broken the record of AB de Villiers in scoring the highest fifty plus score against RR in IPL.

 

In IPL, De Villiers had crossed the fifty mark 8 times in 20 innings against RR. Rahul has gone ahead of him in just 19 innings. He equaled De Villiers by scoring 75 runs in 40 balls in Jaipur on May 1. Now they have been overtaken.

Rahul achieved another big achievement

Right-handed batsman Rahul achieved another major achievement during his half-century innings. He scored his 50th fifty plus score in IPL. He became the fifth batsman to cross the fifty mark for the 50th time in this league. Before him, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have achieved this feat.

DC’s hopes remain intact

In the match played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, DC won the toss and decided to bowl first and restricted RR to 193 runs thanks to Mitchell Starc’s lethal bowling (4/40). After this, Rahul and Abhishek Porel (51 runs in 31 balls) laid the foundation of DC’s victory by making an opening partnership of 105 runs. However, after both were out, she was stuck in the run chase. Captain Axar Patel (34 not out in 18 balls) stood till the end and took him to the target. Ashutosh Sharma ended the match by scoring unbeaten 18 runs in 5 balls. With this victory, DC’s hopes remain intact in the race for the playoffs.
