Honnavar: One person died and several others were injured in two separate incidents after being struck by lightning at the Apsarakonda beach in the taluk on Saturday night, May 16.
The deceased has been identified as Vinayaka Kharvi, a resident of Apsarakonda.
According to sources, he was struck by lightning on Saturday evening while heading out for fishing in a traditional pathi boat in the sea near Apsarakonda beach, amid heavy rain, thunder, and strong winds.
In another incident that occurred near the hillock at Apsarakonda beach, several people sustained severe injuries due to a lightning strike.
Tourists and photographers present at the spot were among those affected by the strike. They are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the town.
Further details regarding the incident are awaited.
Tahsildar Pravin Karande and Revenue Department official Vinay Pandit visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
