Abu Dhabi : India-UAE relations received a new boost during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s brief but significant visit to the United Arab Emirates. Delegation-level talks with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan resulted in key agreements in several sectors, including defense, energy, and infrastructure.
Amid rising tensions in West Asia, Prime Minister Modi sent a clear message, saying India stands “shoulder to shoulder” with the UAE under all circumstances. He strongly condemned the attacks on the UAE, saying that targeting any sovereign country is unacceptable.
Prime Minister Modi described the UAE as his “second home” and expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received there. He said the escort provided by the UAE Air Force was a symbol of respect for India’s 1.4 billion citizens. He also thanked the UAE government and royal family for their care of the Indian community during the difficult circumstances and the pandemic.
On regional security and global stability, PM Modi said India always supports resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy. He also stressed the need to keep the commercially vital Strait of Hormuz open and secure.
Several important MoUs were exchanged between the two countries during the visit. India and the UAE agreed on a new framework to strengthen the Strategic Defence Partnership, which will provide a new impetus to military cooperation and security ties.
The two countries also reached important agreements in the energy sector. These agreements, to strategic petroleum reserves and LPG supplies, are considered crucial for India’s energy security. Experts believe these agreements will further strengthen the economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
