Kartik Tyagi injures Sai Sudharsan as GT opener walks off clutching elbow during massive chase
Cricket Gully | May 17, 2026 2:39 AM CST

After Rajat Patidar, Kartik Tyagi gave a blow to the Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan. The Gujarat Titans bowlers conceded 247 runs, their most in their IPL history. And changing that, the first man to depart was Sai Sudharsan. On May 16, at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders are facing Gujarat Titans where the KKR fast bowler Kartik Tyagi injured Sai Sudharsan, forcing the latter to retire hurt.

In the final ball of the third over, Kartik bowled a length ball outside off. Sai wanted to go to the leg side, but the ball hit his elbow badly. Sai initially tried to get over it. The GT physio came and checked, and then he eventually walked out.

Notably, Sai Sudharsan started with a flurry alongside captain Shubman Gill. Before walking out, he scored 23 runs in just 13 balls, hitting four boundaries and 1 six.

In the previous match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kartik did a similar thing as the ball hit RCB captain Rajat Patidar's helmet. Even though he was dismissed after a ball or two, Sai might come back if his team needs him.

KKR lost Matheesha Pathirana to hamstring pull

The Sri Lankan star bowler Matheesha Pathirana came in to play his first match for the Kolkata Knight Riders. But in his first over, he had sustained a hamstring pull. Despite that, he completed that over and over. But he couldn't continue with the second.

The KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane called him back for the 6th over. Right after the first ball, he pulled his leg. He stopped halfway, and the physio came in for inspection. However, after a small chat, he figured out to walk away from the field. The Vidarbha bowler Saurav Dube finished the over for KKR.
