Mangaluru: Police in the city seized a vehicle transporting around 27 buffaloes illegally near Jappinamogaru on Saturday morning.
According to police sources, the incident came to light after members of Bajrang Dal alerted authorities with specific information regarding suspected illegal transport. Acting on the input, officers from the Kankanady Town Police Station intercepted an Eicher vehicle near the Jappinamogaru stretch of the national highway and conducted a search.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the buffaloes were being transported from Haveri district to Kerala. Officials stated that the animals were allegedly packed in the vehicle without proper permits and in an inhumane manner.
The rescued buffaloes have been shifted to a local cow shelter for care and protection. Police have seized the vehicle and initiated further legal proceedings in connection with the case.
