Shadaab Khan, son of late actor Amjad Khan, has revealed that he auditioned for a significant role in Dhurandhar but was ultimately not cast in the film.
In a recent conversation with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Shadaab praised the movie and acknowledged its massive success, while also saying that the legacy of Sholay remains unmatched.
“Dhurandhar is a very big film, no doubt. It’s a smash hit. People are talking a lot about its success and the numbers it has done,” he said.
Shadaab also appreciated the filmmakers and actors for their work. “I’ve seen the film and I genuinely think the makers and actors deserve appreciation for what they’ve achieved,” he added.
During the interview, Shadaab disclosed that he had auditioned for an important role in the Dhurandhar franchise after being approached by casting director Mukesh Chhabra’s agency.
“Yes, coincidentally I had auditioned for Dhurandhar. Mukesh Chhabra’s casting agency had called me in,” he revealed.
According to Shadaab, the role was a substantial one that extended across both Part One and Part Two of the franchise. He said he was satisfied with how the audition went.
“It was actually for a very solid role across both Part One and Part Two. The audition itself went very well. I was quite happy with how it turned out,” he shared.
However, despite feeling positive about the audition, he was not selected for the role. When asked which character he had auditioned for, Shadaab declined to reveal any details, saying it would be unfair to the actors who eventually landed the parts.
“No, no… that wouldn’t be fair,” he said.
He further added that since the film is already a major success, it would be unprofessional to discuss the role publicly now.
“The film is a huge success right now and everybody associated with it has done a fantastic job. I don’t think it would be professional of me to suddenly say, ‘By the way, I had auditioned for this role too.’ Let the actors who got selected enjoy their success. Let the filmmakers celebrate the film,” he stated.
Shadaab also expressed happiness over actors like Rakesh Bedi receiving recognition for their performances.
Interestingly, he admitted that he did not feel bitter about this rejection because he understood the reason behind the casting decision.
“After the film released, I saw snippets of the character out of curiosity — just to see who had eventually played the role,” he said.
According to Shadaab, the role demanded a different physical appearance and screen presence than what he could offer.
“And honestly, the physicality, the look, the body type — nothing matched me. So I understood that the rejection was based on suitability,” he explained.
Calling it a professional decision, Shadaab said he completely accepted the outcome.
“That’s a rejection I can fully accept because sometimes a role simply requires a different face or screen presence. It happens,” he concluded, while adding that every actor naturally hopes opportunities eventually work out in their favour.
