At the time, Vicky was only 13 years old and studying in the eighth standard. In the image, a young Vicky stands beside his brother Sunny Kaushal as they pose with Shah Rukh Khan. The photograph was shared in 2022 by Vicky’s father, Sham Kaushal. He posted the image after Vicky and filmmaker Vishnuvardhan received major recognition at award ceremonies. Vicky was honored for Sardar Udham, while Vishnuvardhan was celebrated for 'Shershaah'. Sharing the throwback, Sham Kaushal wrote, “By God’s grace, this photo was taken in 2001 during the shooting of Asoka in Film City. Vishnu Vardhan was asstt director, and Vicky was studying in 8th standards. Nobody ever imagined that one day Vicky will join the film line and in 2022, both of them will be winning the Best Director and Best Actor Awards, respectively, for Shershah and Sardar Udham. Years after that childhood photo, Vicky fulfilled his dream by acting with Shah Rukh Khan in 'Dunki', directed by Rajkumar Hirani. In an earlier interview with Bollywood Hungama, Vicky spoke about the experience. He said, "It's a dream come true. Unko milna hi dream come true hota hai, unke saath kaam karna to socho kitna bada dream come true hai. (Just meeting him is a dream come true, so just imagine what a big dream it was to work with Shah Rukh). That too, in combination with Raju sir directing you."
