Suriya's much awaited Tamil film 'Karuppu' has been released in theaters after many controversies and last minute difficulties. A day before the release, the news of cancellation of shows and financial crisis of the film had disappointed the fans. 'Karuppu' shines at the box office on the first day

According to the report of trade tracking website sacnilk.com, Karuppu made a net collection of around Rs 15.50 crore at the box office on the first day. Out of this, the Tamil version of the film has earned approximately Rs 13.10 crore and the Telugu version has earned approximately Rs 2.40 crore. According to the report, the film was released in 4891 shows across the country. The total occupancy of the film was recorded at around 50.35 percent. While there was 24.54 percent footfall in the morning shows, a huge jump was seen in the evening and night shows. The occupancy of the film in night shows reached about 75.15 percent.

Worldwide collection of 'Karuppu' also showed strength

According to the report, the film also performed well in the overseas market. Here the film earned approximately Rs 4 crore, due to which its worldwide first day gross collection has become approximately Rs 21.93. However, it could not break the record of Surya's previous big opener Kanguva. 'Kanguwa' had collected a net collection of around Rs 24 crore in India on the first day. Whereas its worldwide opening was around Rs 39.50 crore.

Was there an uproar before the release of 'Karuppu'?

This film, directed by RJ Balaji, was earlier scheduled to release on May 14. But many of its shows were suddenly cancelled. Reports claimed that producer SR Prabhu of the film's production company Dream Warrior Pictures faced financial problems, due to which the release was affected. Despite all the controversies, Ek Di was not only delayed, but the film was released in theaters on May 15. After the release of the film, Surya thanked the fans by sharing a post on social media. He wrote "Dear all... Thanks for staying with us! #Karuppu #Veerbhadrudu from today!" This post is now becoming increasingly viral on social media.
