Yadgir: After nearly three months of scorching heat, several parts of Yadgir district received heavy rain on Thursday evening, bringing relief to residents struggling with high temperatures.
Strong winds, cloudy skies, thunder and lightning were reported across the district, with Shahapur region receiving particularly heavy rainfall.
Residents said the first major rain in nearly three months cooled the heated ground and brought down temperatures significantly.
According to weather department estimates, the monsoon is expected to enter the district about a week earlier this year, even though around 15 days of summer still remain. The department had predicted thunderstorms and rain during evening hours for three days starting Wednesday after intense daytime heat.
Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning was reported in Shahapur, Surpur, Narayanpur, Vadagera, Saidapur and Gurmitkal taluks, along with several villages in the district. Some places reportedly received rainfall for more than an hour.
In Yadgir city, cloudy weather was seen around 3 pm, followed by heavy rain with thunder and lightning at around 4.30 pm.
