Mr Streeting blamed the Government's problems partly on unpopular decisions including cuts to the winter fuel allowance and Sir Keir's controversial "island of strangers" speech, which he said had left voters unclear about Labour's values.

Despite praising the Prime Minister's "courage and statesmanship on the world stage", Mr Streeting said Labour lacked direction and had become disconnected from voters.
