Manipal: An unidentified person allegedly entered a rented house and attacked a young woman with a cement stone before fleeing with her gold chain in the Shanthinagar area near Alevoor Road, police said.
The victim, identified as Megha Manjunath Gowda (25) from Kumta’s Koojali village, was living in a rented room in Shanthinagar along with her friends Nagarantha, Gagana and Yogita.
According to the complaint, the group had left for night shift duty at an industrial unit in Manipal on the evening of May 12. They returned around 7.15 am on May 13 after completing work and found the room door partially open.
On entering the house, they found Yogita lying on the floor in a semi-conscious condition with a severe head injury. It is alleged that she was struck on the head using a cement stone. A gold chain weighing around 8 grams was also found missing from her neck.
Yogita was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment and is currently undergoing medical care. The identity of the attacker remains unknown, and police have launched an investigation into the case.
Further inquiries are underway.
