Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ release reportedly hit with delay

Postponement rumours around big star films have become quite frequent lately, and the newest film to land in the middle of such speculation is Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2.

Earlier reports claimed the sequel was aiming for an August 2026 release, but fresh reports now suggest the plans may have slightly changed.

As per a pinkvilla report, the team behind Jailer 2who were reportedly looking at different release options between June and August, are now planning to bring the film to theatres on September 4 during Krishna Jayanthi.

While there has been no official confirmation from the makers so far, reports indicate the release may have been postponed by a few weeks from the earlier schedule.

The changes in release plans seem to be impacting other major Tamil films as well.

Recent reports stated that Suriya’s Vishwanath & Sons could shift from July to August 2026, while Soori’s Mandadi is also said to be considering the same timeframe for release.

Helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 marks Rajinikanth’s return as Muthuvel Pandian after the strong response to the first instalment.

The sequel features Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah and Suraj Venjaramoodu in important roles. Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar are also likely to return with cameo appearances.

Earlier reports had claimed that Shah Rukh Khan was approached for a cameo role in the movie.

However, the actor reportedly turned down the offer because of his commitments towards his upcoming film King.

At the same time, the 75-year-old also has several other projects lined up, including the tentatively titled Thalaivar 173.

The film has reportedly seen multiple developments, especially regarding the director, with recent reports naming Dragon director Ashwath Marimuthu as the latest filmmaker being considered for the project.
